All octagon gazebo in the standard base models comes with all the parts and components you need to get your gazebo up and fitted. If you feel that you want a different style of railings or different colour roof (for example), than the ones in the images below then please get in touch with a project manager for further assistance.

1. Standard Treated Pine Railing

Fifthroom's standard railings feature #1 Grade Southern Yellow Pine 1x3 balusters, spaced 4" on center, with a 2x4 top handrail. They sand each baluster and round the edges to reduce splintering. Fifthroom's #1 grade lumber surpasses the quality of typical lumber yard offerings. It's KDAT (Kiln Dried After Treated) to prevent warping or twisting.

The top railing sections and decorative railings on Fifthroom's double roof gazebos match the chosen standard railing.

Fifthroom's standard railing height measures 32" from the floor to the top handrail. For taller or shorter options, consult your Project Advisor.

Railings come pre-assembled in sections for easy attachment to posts using the provided screws.

2. Standard Treated Pine Braces

Braces square your gazebo's corners and help support the gazebo roof. Fifthroom's standard braces offer graceful, simple lines. Cut from solid 2 x 8 Pressure Treated Southern Yellow Pine, the brace comes as part of the top railing sections and installs easily with supplied screws.

3. Standard Laminated Treated Pine Posts

Fifthroom’s standard treated pine posts are laminated, meaning they're glued together. They use kiln-dried pressure-treated Southern Yellow Pine, naturally stronger and less prone to warping than regular lumber. By laminating three pieces of lumber (two 2x4s and a 1x4) with glue and screws, we create a bond exceeding the wood's natural strength.

This process yields a solid, durable post that resists warping for decades. Posts are sanded and rounded to a 3 1/2" square shape. They stand 78" tall from the floor. For gazebos wider than 18', we use 5" x 5" laminated posts.

Fifthroom's Vinyl Gazebos feature 3 ½” x 3 ½” posts covered by a 4x4 vinyl sleeve.

Note: For taller posts or heavier 6x6 posts, consult your Project Advisor. Larger gazebos or those in areas with heavy snow or wind may require larger posts.

4. Treated Pine Octagon Cupola with Finial

The word "cupola" (pronounced cu'-puh-luh) originates from Latin, meaning "little cupo" or "little dome." Often called a "roof over a hole in the roof," the cupola served a ventilation purpose historically, but today it's primarily decorative.

Fifthroom's cupola uses treated pine and matching shingles to complement your gazebo. It's the perfect finishing touch for your backyard retreat. All Octagon Gazebos include a cupola, while it's optional for Oval and Rectangular styles.

5. 30 Year Architectural Asphalt Shingles

These heavyweight 30-year architectural asphalt shingles feature a triple-layer fiberglass mat construction with a random cut middle and top saw tooth design. They coat the three mat layers with asphalt, top them with mineral granules, and then laminate them together using special asphalt adhesive. A self-sealing asphalt strip enhances wind resistance.

Fifthroom's standard shingles come from TAMKO Building Products. If you choose a non-standard shingle from another manufacturer, consult your Project Advisor for necessary Florida Approvals (FL18355-R6).

6. Treated Pine Ceiling

The gazebo is completed with a matching tongue and groove ceiling. This classic choice provides a finished, elegant appearance.

Treated Pine for Outdoor Structures FAQs Answered

How long can treated pine last outside?

Treated pine is a reliable and affordable option for outdoor projects. It can still last between 15-20 years with proper care.

What are the cons of treated pine?

While treated pine is a popular and affordable building material, it does have some drawbacks:

Sun sensitivity: Treated pine can be sensitive to sunlight, leading to changes in color, cracking, warping, and cupping if not properly maintained.

Appearance: While treated pine can provide a natural wood look, it may not always replicate the exact appearance of real, untreated wood.

To mitigate these issues, it's essential to apply a protective finish to treated pine and regularly inspect and maintain it. With proper care, treated pine can still be a durable and cost-effective choice for various outdoor projects.

What is the best base for a gazebo?

For a durable, cost-effective and low-maintenance option laying a concrete slab base is hard to beat. Once dry and the gazebo erected, the surface can be left exposed, or tiled, or you can even paint concrete bases, for a high-end contemporary finish

What gazebo can withstand wind?

A hardtop gazebo is the best option for withstanding harsh weather conditions like wind, rain, and snow. Unlike soft-top gazebos, hardtop roofs are designed to withstand strong winds and heavy precipitation without collapsing or being damaged. This means you can enjoy your outdoor space year-round, even during inclement weather.

Hardtop gazebos provide a secure and sheltered environment, allowing you to relax and enjoy the outdoors without worrying about the elements.
